Mapping and analysis support for new book: English Inland Trade: 1430-1540

10.06.2015

We are delighted to announce the recent publication of a new book on inland trade in medieval England, with our colleagues at University of Winchester and University of Southampton. The work is based on the Southampton Brokage books, a fascinating and unique resource that documents all goods leaving the port of Southampton over 500 years ago. The records were translated from Latin and entered into a database and were analysed and mapped using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The book contains over 30 maps showing where different commodities were sent to, as well as changes in important centres during the period.

Further information can be found on the project website and the database upon which the book is based is also available to explore via an interactive map.
